Heart2Heart to Help Cardiac Patients

After a cardiac event, patients often need to make several lifestyle changes, such as proper medication usage, diet and exercise. As noted in a previous article, most patients do not follow basic guidelines such as filling-out prescriptions. A new governmental pilot program uses volunteers who themselves have experienced a cardiac event. The program is based on the premise that patients require social support in order to make lasting changes. Heart2Heart is currently being tested by the American Heart Association in various cities across the country. It trains volunteers in the basics of heart health and matches them with participants going through similar situations.
