Minorities and Negative Medication Beliefs

It's been shown that minority status is associated with lower medication adherence. This study measured the effects of negative medication beliefs on the relationship between minority status and decreased medication adherence. Mean adherence was lower and negative beliefs were more likely in minority groups than in Caucasians. Negative medication beliefs were found to mediate the relationship between minority status and poor adherence. Further interventions should address negative beliefs to reduce health disparities affecting minority groups. Link
