CVS Caremark Study: Non-Adherence Almost Doubles Risk of Hospitalization

A recently published study by CVS Caremark has found that non-adherent heart failure patients are at an increased risk of almost 200% for subsequent re-hospitalization. In 12 months, non-adherent patients will on average be re-hospitalized 1.1 times, as opposed to only .6 times for adherent patients. Unfortunately, 49.9% of hospitalized heart failure patients are non-adherent. Dr. Brennan, Chief Medical Officer at CVS Caremark, encourages patients and doctors to be aware of the long-term clinical outcomes and financial consequences of non-adherence.
