Health Literacy Predicts Adherence: New Study

Though many studies have been used to show health literacy affects adherence, they have been limited by subjective adherence measures. This study used unannounced pill counts to assess adherence in HIV treatment in 145 patients. Health literacy predicted poor adherence, and adherence levels of 80% and 90% “over and above” other factors tested (OR = 3.94, 95%; OR = 4.96, 95% respectively).
