How Effective is Email at Reaching Consumers?

Epsilon Research recently released data from a survey performed in October 2008 on the effects of email communication from financial services companies on customer interest. They surveyed over 1500 consumers and found that 54% "have a more favorable opinion" of companies that send them emails. A further 63% of consumers accessed links present in the emails to learn more about products (42% typed the URL into their browser instead), 85% liked receiving permission-based emails, and 70% found that these emails affected their purchasing decisions.
